CHARACTERS
In the Chinese, traditional theatre there are in general
four types. Actors would implement only one types of role
for their total career. Each kind has its own movements
prescribed thus also the vocal distinctive type. These four
types vary little in consequence of different regional operas,
but their general attributes, the costume and the constitution
were transferred in the tradition from theater to the puppet-theatre.

Dan
The female role is known for Dan. This type of is called the
young maiden (qingyi), the rich woman (guimendan), feisty
the constant girl of control (huadan), the old woman (laodan),
Warrior woman (wudan) and the weapon and horse woman (daomadan).
These roles were implemented traditionally all by the male
actors, although this one is not any more the case. |

Chou
The Chou is the name which is given to the clown. That chou
can be male or woman, well or evils, rich person or poor. |

Jing
Jing is character with a painted face. They can be of Warriors,
Heroes or villans. Your constitution marks its nature with
those which are familiarized with the symbol of the colors.
Example, treachery is mainly white faces and a face black
indicates uprightness.

Sheng
Sheng is the name which is given to the male roles. The young
man (xiaosheng) who plays against the young women. In the
same way the old man (laosheng), narrow quarters warrior (duandawsheng)
and to armoured Warrior (changkaowusheng). |
